Complete Search:
This search can be found on the index page and in the
directory pages and was developed by Weston Ruter a Perl programmer it is a very complete
search of an URL database. It searches title, description, url, keywords, and
author and is not case sensitive. It is great for a directed search of the
database. A detailed description of how it works is below.
Search syntax: RuterSearch has more syntax features than
even Yahoo! Here is the syntax for searching RuterSearch:
- Phrases: To search for a certain sequence of words (a phrase), set
it off with double quotation marks. To RuterSearch, phrases work much like
regular search words. Example: "Jesus lives"
- Required words: To require that a word to be in a entry, put a plus
sign before the word. Examples: +Mozilla, +"perl scripts"
- Rejected words: To reject an entry that has a certain word, put a
minus sign before the word. Examples: -Microsoft -"Bill Gates"
- Section restrictions: Website entries in RuterSearch are divided
into sections, which are: title, description, url, keywords, and author
(also date and type). As default, a search is performed on every section of
an entry. To restrict searching of a word to a specific section of an entry,
enter the name of the section or the first letter of the section, followed
by a pair of parentheses, and within the parentheses, enter the search
query. You can use different section restrictors together. Examples:
title(Mozilla) and t(Mozilla); u(netscape.com) and url(netscape.com); etc...
searchable sections are: title, description, url, keywords, and author.
- Wildcards: There are two wildcards, "?" and
"*", same as Windows and Unix/Linux. A question mark "?"
matches a single character. An asterisk "*" matches multiple
characters. Examples: (e.g. Ruter*, ?uter, *script, ?ozill*, etc.)
- Summary: All syntax features can be used together to create
complex searches. Here is the order in which you can combine syntax:
- section restrictions
- required and rejected words
- words and phrases. Examples Below
(A) +Republican -Democrat keywords(+politic*), (B)
title(+browser -"Internet Explorer" -IE) Netscape Mozilla, (C)
+perl -C++ title(RuterSoft) author("Weston Ruter").
MultiSearch:
This search is found in other searches on index page and uses
five searches in one. Can search the five major search engines on the internet
at once. Great for search outside Whoisman.net but please read caution below.
CAUTION:
Please note search with these Search Engines can produce hyperlinks to Web Sites
that are not family safe.
Be careful the Keywords used for your search. Recommended use with
adult supervision for children.
Google
Safe Search: This search
is found in other searches on index page and uses one of the largest search
databases in the world and is filtered by Google for safe content. Please read
caution below* .
Many Google users prefer not to have adult sites included in their search
results. Google's SafeSearch screens for sites that contain this type of
information and eliminates them from search results. While no filter is 100%
accurate, Google's filter uses advanced proprietary technology that checks
keywords and phrases, URLs and Open Directory categories.
* While Google SafeSearch is filtered
for non offensive material we still caution some
web sites may not be acceptable for all family search because it is scanned
by internet spider and not reviewed by human. Please keep this in mind when
performing a search. Whoisman.net
